Trade Policy

You are welcome to come in, linger and wander, to buy books and nothing more, yet as a quality used bookstore we also take in trades as follows:

When bringing in books to trade at Bookmark, it’s important to note:

  • We are primarily devoted to paperback books.
  • We accept hardback books on a limited basis.
  • We do not pay cash for books.
  • We reserve the right to reject any book, at any time, for any reason.
  • We seek books that are in good condition, fairly current, clean, complete, undamaged, and unmarked. Good condition also means not musty or drenched in the scent of tobacco smoke or perfume.
  • We do not accept books from Libraries.
  • The trade value for most books is generally calculated at about one-third to one-half the Bookmark price, based on variables like condition and need.

Receiving a Bookmark Voucher for your trade(s):

  • Once your book is deemed suitable for Bookmark’s stock,  a trade value is calculated, and then you receive a Bookmark Voucher, which can be used to buy buy books, per the terms below.
  • Bookmark Vouchers for specific genres (like Science Fiction or Westerns) may be limited to their respective genre.
  • Bookmark Vouchers may not be redeemed for cash; they are only valid for in store trade of books, per the terms applicable at the time of your purchase.

Using your Bookmark credit voucher:

  • Your Bookmark Voucher can be used for up to 70% of a purchase price, with the balance paid as cash or credit card. For example, were you making a ten dollar purchase—the maximum Voucher value that might be applied to the purchased is $7.00 (with the balance paid as cash or credit card).
  • Your voucher has no cash value; it may only be used in trade for books, per the currently prevailing terms.

Buying books at Bookmark:

  • Bookmark stock is generally priced at about one-half the publisher’s original retail price, in fifty-cent increments. A minimum pricing is applied to individual genre.

This Bookmark book trade policy is subject to change.

If you have any questions about any of these terms please let us know.
